Tie-Dye

Every week on Wednesday your camper has the option to complete the tie-dye activity. All activities are optional, they do not have to participate in any activity they do not want to do. This particular activity is very popular and fun to do. Many of our campers that attend our summer camp each week choose to do the tie-dye activity.

If your camper is interested in doing tie-dye, they should arrive to camp with a 100% white cotton t-shirt in their backpacks. *We do not provide 100% cotton shirts* Counselors will write the campers name on the collar of the shirt and place it with their group stuff.

Once it is activity time, campers will be able to choose a design (spiral, bullseye, stripes, or scrunch) and choose whichever colors they wish to have on their shirts. Once completed, the tie-dyed shirt will get placed in a bag and taken home to you with instructions on how to rinse and wash. Below are also the instructions and where the dye was purchased.

Rinsing Instructions for Tie-Dye

Today your child created a tie-dye shirt that he/she will enjoy for years. If properly rinsed and washed, the colors will stay as brilliant as they appear when you open the plastic bag! The shirt should be kept at room temperature. Leave the shirt in the bag for 6-8 hours. Using a utility sink, rinse the shirt under lukewarm water as you remove the rubber bands. Moms and Dads will want to do this as the dyes may stain anything they get on (this includes your hands; gloves are strongly suggested). Continue rinsing until you see the water running clear. This step may seem to take a long time – it does. The results will be worth it! Now wash the shirt in hot soapy water in the washing machine all by itself. The dyes are now set, and you may wash your shirt along with other clothes. Dry in the dryer or hang out on the line and enjoy!
