School Tours We offer Spring and Fall school tours for Preschoolers through 6th graders. After the long winter, a day on the Farm makes an ideal class field trip. Spring is the time of birth and the Farm is teeming with baby animals. Fall tours are popular with school groups and one of the highlights is a hayride to the storybook trail and a visit to the pumpkin patch. To help teachers prepare for the field trips, we've compiled a list of some of our favorite farm books. BOOK YOUR FIELD TRIP BY PHONE at 248-628-1611 or EMAIL the information to Sally at uplandhillsfarm@sbcglobal.net To reserve your date by email please include teacher/contact name, school and address, phone, email address, grade/age of children, number of expected (guesstimate) participants including parents and siblings. Please list your first and second choice of dates.
Spring School Tours 2012 Tours and Shows: Kindergarteners through 6th graders have the opportunity to attend the farm show. The farmers will demonstrate how the animals are used for food and fiber including milking the cows, making butter, sheering sheep, and spinning the wool into yarn. Preschoolers have the opportunity to walk from barn to barn with a farmer to visit the animals up-close for a more hands-on experience. The children will have an opportunity to milk a cow . Hayride: Everyone can take a 30 minute tractor drawn hayride through the pasture and blossoming trees. Storybook Trail: Take a hayride out to the woods and walk our storybook trail where the pages of a book come to life as your class walks through the woods. Lunch: You are welcome to bring your own sack lunch and beverage. There are ample picnic tables both inside and outside. We recommend that you leave your lunch on the bus until lunch time. Farm Show: For elementary children, the farmer will demonstrate how the animals are used for food and fiber including milking the cow, making butter, sheering the sheep and spinning the wool into yarn. Tour: You can walk from barn to barn to visit the animals close up for a more hands on experience. Preschool groups will have a guided tour and the opportunity to milk the cow. Hayride: Everyone can take a 30 minute tractor drawn hayride through the pastures and colorful trees. Storybook Trail: Take a hayride out to the woods and walk our storybook trail where the pages of an early childhood book come to life as you and your friends walk through the woods. This Fall our story, created by Upland Hills Farm employees, is A Bale of Hay Goes a Long Way. Illustrated by Jeff Powers and written by Casey Berant and Sally Marshall. Lunch: You are welcome to bring your own sack lunch. There are ample picnic tables both inside and outside. We recommend that you leave your lunch on the bus until lunch time. There is also a concession stand featuring soda, munchies, soup, hot dogs, etc. Pumpkins: Everybody walks to the pumpkin patch to pick a pumpkin to take home. All pumpkins are pie pumpkins which means each pumpkin is usually 6 12 inches in diameter, just the right size for children to carry themselves. Feed the ducks and geese: Each class will be given a bucket of corn to take to the pond to feed the ducks and geese. Playground: There are two unique playgrounds for some free time at the end of the day. (Our playgrounds have wooden tractors and horses on them!) Schedule: We will be ready to serve you by 9:00am. Arrive as early as possible and you are welcome to stay until 2 p.m. Rates: Admission to the farm for Fall School Tours is $8.00 per person including adults and siblings. One teacher per 25 students is admitted free. One person should submit payment for everyone in the class when you arrive. Dates: October 2012 dates to be announced. Please call 248-628-1611 to schedule your tour. You may also email Sally at uplandhillsfarm@sbcglobal.net .
