The winter is generally too cold and muddy on the farm for children to visit. In the winter the Farmers like to visit the schools! We will bring a cow, a calf, goat, sheep, pigs, chickens, ducks, geese and rabbits along with us to spend the day in a room you provide. The Program: For kindergarten through 6th grade we provide four 45 - 50 minute programs that include five to ten minutes to pet the animals. The children will then be seated around the animals. The farmers will conduct a demonstration including milking the cow, making butter, sheep sheering, spinning wool and a question and answer period at the end. For preschool and special education programs, we provide eight 20 minute programs. These programs focus on an up-close, hands on experience that most children only encounter in books. Ample time is provided to allow children to warm up to the animals, ending with the opportunity to milk the cow. The Staff: Includes two farmers seasoned
in dealing with both children and an entourage of animals born and raised to be in
different environments while around The Schedule: About a month before we Preschool and special education groups should be divided into 8 equal groups. Typically four in the morning and four in the afternoon. The Clean up: Many times administration and custodians are concerned about the mess that might be left by the animals. The animals are kept on a tarp with straw. At the end of the day the farmers sweep up the straw and take everything back to the farm with them. The Season: Begins on February 25 through April 30, 2008. The program is offered Monday through Friday. Rates: $900.00 per day. |
